Washington, D.C., (August 2, 2022) – Village Capital, with backing and grant funding from leading cloud-based subscription management platform provider Zuora®, announced that 10 startups were chosen to participate in Sustainability Subscribed, an accelerator program for startups developing solutions to combat climate change and safeguard the planet through subscription models.
The open call targeted startups utilizing recurring revenue models, such as subscriptions, that are driving progress toward greater sustainability and net zero emissions.
Over 50 entrepreneurs from 16 states applied to join the accelerator. The final cohort comprises the top 10 companies, 40% of which are headquartered outside of US tech hubs (NY, CA, MA), 40% have a BIPOC member on the founding team or in the C-Suite, and 70% have a female member on the founding team or in the C-Suite. These companies are building solutions addressing greenhouse gas emissions, access to clean energy, resilience and sustainability of food and water systems, circular economy practices, and climate change.
Here are the 10 startups leveraging subscription or recurring revenue models to combat climate change in the US:
Akeptus (Mars, PA) is broadening access to smart technology by offering a low-cost solution that enables homeowners across all income levels to reduce their energy consumption.
Ampliphi (Atlanta, GA) is a data-driven sustainability-as-a-service platform that enables brands and retailers to advance a circular economy.
Benchmark Labs (San Diego, CA) delivers asset-specific environmental forecasts to high-value asset managers to enhance opportunity costs and operating margins.
FloVision AI (South Bend, IN) minimizes food waste in cafeterias, fast food, and quick service restaurants using computer vision and machine learning.
Haystack Ag (Boston, MA) delivers cost-effective, high-accuracy soil carbon verification solutions for landowners and carbon markets.
IncentiFind (Houston, TX) is the nation’s premier database of green building incentives, driving the transformation of US real estate toward sustainability through $70 billion in incentives.
Saascharge (New York, NY) allows anyone to participate in the electric vehicle charging market through an open, scalable, and interconnected platform.
Scope Zero (San Francisco, CA) is developing a platform to offer a new employee benefit called a carbon savings account, which lowers employees’ CO2 footprints and advances corporate sustainability goals.
Sortile (New York, NY) delivers AI-driven solutions that convert textile waste into value by enabling fiber-to-fiber recycling.
Voltpost (New York, NY) is converting lamp posts into smart electric vehicle charging stations to decarbonize transportation and broaden charging access.
From August to November 2022, selected startups will engage in three online workshops and one in-person workshop focused on enhancing investment-readiness. Each company will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with industry experts, investors, and ecosystem partners to build the networks required to scale their impact. The top two peer-selected companies will each receive USD $50,000 in grant funding.
All startups in the program will be invited to join Abaca, Village Capital’s global online network that assists entrepreneurs in analyzing and structuring their businesses for investment. The network also connects them with suitable investors and resources.
